Students making jewelry
Making bathboms

The upcoming holiday season is getting students riled up. Now that Halloween has come and gone, students are preparing for the upcoming holidays with the reinstallation of the holiday shop.

Fifth grade students have been busy in the STEAM room, hard at work creating gifts and items to be sold in the shop in a similar manner to the Book Fair. Students learned about 3D designs to create the gifts from laser cutters and designs from silhouettes. Gifts like jewelry, mugs, ornaments, and even coasters, will be sold and bought by students.

STEAM teachers Emily Johnson and Crystal Mikel started the shop to encourage entrepreneurship with the students. The goal was to allow the creation and use of technology to advance student learning.

Items cost between $1-$5 and the shop will be open Nov. 27 and run through Dec. 8. Students will shop during their STEAM specials in the BSE safe room. All gifts will be wrapped for students to put under the Christmas tree.

Notes will be sent home with students to allow them to make a list of family members to shop for and a budget for the student. Those willing to volunteer to aid in students shopping can email Mrs. Mikels at cmikels@salemschools.us and Ms. Johnson at ejohnson@salemschools.us

All money made during the event will go back to the STEAM program to purchase technology and supplies.
