Students jumping rope

At Bradie Shrum Elementary the Kids Heart Challenge is back! The goal this year is to raise $4,000.

“We have already raised over $1,000,” said PE teacher Alex Davidson, who is in charge of the event at BSE.  “Our highest earnings as a school is $11,000! The goal this year is to raise $4,000 and they have raised $1,322.28 so far.”

Davidson said there are more than 30 kids registered already and the event does not officially start until Friday. The program lasts four weeks.

¨I think we will have a great turnout, as we incorporate the challenge in our PE classes as well,¨ she said.

The students are raising money for the American Heart Association. Each dollar amount that kids raise gets them a special keychain through the Kid's Heart Challenge program. BSE has participated in the Kids Heart Challenge every year since 2007.

¨We also recognize the TOP donation getter, and put their name on a board to hang in the gym!¨ said Davidson.

In addition to raising money, the students will have jump roping competitions in class.

¨I am super excited to start raising money for the American Heart Association, as well as teach kids how to jump rope,” said Davidson. “It's a lot of fun when kids can learn valuable skills while also raising money for an important cause.¨

Information will be coming with students on Friday, Jan 25.
