Alex Davison is not new to Bradie Shrum Elementary School this year, but she is in a new role!
For the past few years, she has taught fifth grade. However, this year she is getting a chance to meet and work with every single student at Bradie Shrum Elementary School as the new P.E. teacher.
"I had told Mr. Wilson if he ever decided to leave this job, I was interested in it!" she said. So, when he announced that he was leaving last spring, Davidson jumped on the opportunity.
"When I went to college at USI (University of Southern Indiana), I wanted to be a P.E. teacher but they got rid of that program right before I became a student. I have always loved sports, so this is a perfect fit for me!"
Davidson graduated from Salem High School in 2015, where she was a three-sport athlete. She went on to play basketball at USI for four years while obtaining her degree in education.
She is enjoying her new position in helping students learn to be active and love sports.
"It's been fun watching kids come in and say, 'Oh, I don't like soccer,' but then leaving after class and saying, 'It was more fun than I thought it would be!'" she laughed. "Some of them are just so athletic and they haven't realized it yet!"
Davidson is looking forward to introducing more sports and activities to the students and teaching them all that exercise can be fun.
